電子阅讀器讀中文書
近日電子阅讀器e-reader非常流行，智能手机，平板电脑，筆记簿电脑都可作电子阅讀器，但這類电子产品都連带多种功能,
如電话对话，电脑計算等，在阅讀的功能上反而不及專門為阅读而设計的阅讀器如Kobo，Kindle等。我們最近買了一部加拿大的Kobo，發觉在机身重量，充电期和与圖書馆連接都比其他产品方便。值回一百元的价值。如各會友経常阅讀書籍可以考虑，其次是以平板电脑如Ipad代。
用电子閲讀器讀中文書籍，閲讀器要有相應的中文字体(繁、简體 font)，在美加購買的閲读器很多都没有预设中文font，但可以自已设置，互联网上有很多這有関加插中文功能的說明，非常方便。
閲讀繁体中文書籍，可到在台湾网站www.haodoo.net好讀服務下載，除古典如西遊、水浒、三國等名著外，其推荐的世纪百强(一百本廿世纪最具影响力的中文書)可免费下載。這類电子書通常是以epub格式為标准。包括多位名家的武侠小說。多倫多圖书馆有大量电子书可以借閲，每次限借十本，但格式多是epub, 用Kobo非常方便，Kindle 的閲讀器用的是自行开發的格式，与圖書舘的不兼容.
中國大陸的电子書网站多不勝数，以简体字和现代小說為主，格式多是txt format，可能要轉换為epub 才可在电子閲讀器用。网站www.calibre-ebook.com
有很多格式轉换软件，可轉换流行的epub, txt, pdf 等格式。
另外一处网站www.gutenberg.org 亦有大量的中英文古典名著和工具书免费下載。
To install the Chinese fonts onto Kobo, I found this on the Internet:

Steps I took to enable Kobo Touch (firmware 1.9.10) to display Chinese. About a 10 minutes task
1) Collect 2 font files "simsun.ttf" (Windows default font for Simplified Chinese) and "mingliu.ttf" (traditional Chinese). I also include "fangsong_gb2312.ttf" file for older version Chinese ebook. Do not use the *.ttc files in your PC's Windows font folder. The *.ttf files can be easily downloaded from internet.
2) Connect KOBO to your PC, and tap "connect" on the KOBO screen. Your PC will recognise the KOBO as any USB drive. Use Windows explorer to navigate to the KOBO drive directory.
3) Create a new folder "fonts" in the directory, has to spell exactly fonts without the quotation marks.
4) Copy the *.ttf font files mentioned in (1) to the folder. In my case, the files are 10, 6 and 4 MB each.
5) Eject KOBO from PC and go to any ebook, tap in the middle to call up the font icon (lower right), tap on it and you will see the 3 added fonts to the 7 factory installed fonts that came with KOBO Touch.
6) Now your KOBO is a Chinese reader which can read Chinese ebook in pdf and epub formats (I checked only 2). You can also launch the KOBO browser (settings>extra>launch browser to sites such as "www.sina.com.cn" (for simplified Chinese) or "www.mingpao.com" for (traditional) to check whether the contents are displayed properly. My Gmail account also displayed emails with Chinese characters.
I have not been able to figure out writing Chinese with the keyboard in the Touch yet?
Hope the steps will help anyone who wants to include Chinese ebook or email/web surfing in their KOBO.

Kobo Touch has a very basic web browser which can connect (via wi-fi) to Google for gmail, search and other functions but no videos. Its B&W ink screen is mainly used for text and comes only with 16 levels grey scale for pictures.

It comes with 1.5 GB which is plenty for storing books (it has no audio out, therefore no MP3 files). Of the 1 GB used for storing books, we only use 400 MB and has over 500 books on it. You can add a 16 GB microSD on it.
You can buy from Bestbuy, Futureshop etc but from the web, chapters.com and Indigo the bookstore
Our experience is that if you want multi-function like video, movies, extensive web surfing, streaming etc, go for a pad, like ipad, playbook, android pad etc. But for long battery life (> 2 weeks), light weight, small size, good text reading, then KOBO or Kindle excels. We normally do surfing and video watching with notebook or desktop.

thanks I can finally can read Chinese on my KOBO Mini, next is try to find more traditional chinese EBOOK.
