At this rate, Big Bird
will be newsmaker of the year.
The Sesame Street character made recent headlines (and is still
high profile on the Internet) after U.S. presidential hopeful Mitt Romney said
he was willing to give the yellow plumed Muppet the boot if it meant saving
money through public television cuts.
Big Bird is grabbing
attention again after allegedly being transformed into what some perceive as a
trashy sex object.
An American costume
company, Yandy.com, has produced a Big Bird-like costume, just in time for
Halloween, with short skirt and thigh-high stockings.
Sesame Workshop, the
non-profit organization in charge of the Sesame Street characters, is crying foul and examining
options with its legal team.
According to E!, a
Sesame rep has said “the costumes are not licensed or authorized by Sesame
Workshop. We are working with our legal team to have the costumes removed from
the market.”
